At about 8:30 p.m. Friday, a gunman opened fire inside the Spirit Halloween store in Solano Town Center, killing one person and injuring six others—three of whom are in critical condition—according to the Fairfield Police Department.
Chief Dan Marshall told reporters late Friday that officers are actively searching for the suspect, but no details about the perpetrator or the victims were released.
In a Facebook post early Saturday, the department said the investigation is ongoing, detectives are interviewing witnesses, and the scene remains active—an effort that has drawn the community’s attention.
The store, which sells costumes and decorations for the upcoming Halloween holiday, was operating on the eve of the festival when the shooting occurred.
Fairfield sits 37 miles northeast of Sacramento and 45 miles northeast of San Francisco, making it a frequent destination for shoppers during the holiday season.
Police have requested the public’s assistance in locating the suspect and are monitoring surveillance footage from the mall and nearby businesses.
