Scooter Explodes Outside BSF Base in Jalandhar, Owner Detained

A parked Activa scooter exploded outside the Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters in Jalandhar, Punjab, at approximately 8 p.m., triggering a fire that quickly engulfed the vehicle. The blast, heard up to a kilometre away, prompted an immediate response from police and fire services, with no injuries or casualties reported.
The scooter belonged to Gurpreet Singh, a food delivery worker who had just completed a routine delivery to the BSF premises, authorities said. Singh was taken into custody for questioning, though police have not confirmed any allegations against him. His family denies any suspicious activity, stating he was on a regular shift.
Fire officials described the blaze as unusually intense, requiring multiple units to extinguish. Dhanpreet Kaur, Jalandhar Police Commissioner, confirmed the investigation is examining all possibilities, including mechanical failure and external interference, with CCTV footage being reviewed. Security around the BSF compound has been heightened.
Senior officials have not ruled out any line of inquiry, and forensic teams are processing evidence from the site. The court will convene a status review of the investigation on Tuesday.
