Punjab Police Files Non-Bailable FIRs Against Former AAP MP Sandeep Pathak
The Punjab Police have taken a surprising step against Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, who made headlines recently for switching from the AAP to the BJP. Two FIRs have been filed against him in different districts of Punjab, both of which are under non-bailable sections. This is raising eyebrows, especially since it happened just days after Sandeep Pathak made the big switch.
The BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) are questioning the timing of these FIRs, calling it a case of "political vendetta" against Sandeep Pathak. Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma thinks the AAP government in the state is using the police to silence the opposition. In a post on X, he wrote that the AAP government is now using fear and intimidation to get what they want.
The BJP leader also accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of turning Punjab into a "police state" where dissent is seen as a crime. He said the party will not tolerate this kind of bullying and dictatorship. Akali Dal General Secretary Bikram Singh Majithia also accused the AAP of "selectively targeting" those who fall out with the party. He questioned why the AAP was not taking action against others who were involved in the same issues.
So, what exactly happened in Punjab AAP? On April 24, the AAP suffered a big blow when seven of its 10 Rajya Sabha MPs quit, including Sandeep Pathak. They said the party had strayed from its principles and values. Six of the MPs were from Punjab, and later, they officially merged with the BJP, reducing AAP's strength in the Upper House to just three.
