Congress-led UDF Wins Decisive Majority in Kerala Assembly Elections
The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has won the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections with 102 seats, achieving a near three-fourths majority in the 140-member legislature. The coalition secured 46.55% of the vote, the highest for the UDF since 2001 and a 7.67 percentage point increase from its 2021 tally.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), which held 99 seats in 2021, was reduced to 35 seats and captured 37.34% of the vote—a drop of 7.1 percentage points. This marks the LDF's lowest seat count and vote share in over 40 years, breaking a streak of consistent performance since 1982.
The Election Commission of India has confirmed the results, and the outgoing LDF government will submit its resignation. The UDF is expected to form the next state government, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May 12, 2026.
