Iran Demands 'Comprehensive Agreement' to End West Asia Conflict

TEHRAN/BEIJING — Iran will only enter into a 'fair and comprehensive agreement' regarding the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on Wednesday. Speaking in Beijing after consultations with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Araghchi emphasized that Tehran intends to secure its 'legitimate rights and interests' through the negotiation process with the United States.
The statement follows comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently cited 'great progress' in the diplomatic efforts to resolve the regional war. Araghchi’s remarks indicate a firm stance on the scope of any potential settlement, suggesting that Iran will reject partial or incremental deals that do not address its core strategic requirements.
During the meeting in the Chinese capital, Araghchi briefed Wang Yi on Iran's position, reinforcing the role of Beijing as a key mediator in the dialogue. Iranian state media reported that the Foreign Minister's visit was aimed at aligning perspectives with China as the U.S.-led negotiation framework enters a critical phase.
Diplomatic observers indicate that the focus will now shift to whether the U.S. administration's definition of progress aligns with Iran's demand for a comprehensive settlement. Further high-level meetings between regional stakeholders and international mediators are expected to continue in the coming days.
