Scooter Fire Near BSF Headquarters in Punjab Triggers Panic

A scooter parked near BSF Chowk outside the Border Security Force Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar caught fire on Tuesday evening, sparking panic in the area, police said. Locals reported hearing a blast-like sound from the vehicle at around 8 p.m. along the road linking the city to the Amritsar-Delhi highway.
Police rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control, securing the perimeter of the BSF compound. No injuries were reported, and initial assessments ruled out damage to the high-security facility or nearby structures.
Authorities said the scooter belonged to a civilian and appeared unoccupied at the time of the incident. Investigators are examining whether an electrical fault or fuel leak triggered the fire amid conflicting witness accounts of an explosion.
Forensic teams inspected the site overnight to collect evidence, and police registered a case of accidental fire. The investigation will proceed with vehicle and CCTV analysis, with a preliminary report expected within 48 hours.
