West Bengal Elections 2026: 8 Key Seats That Will Decide the Winner
The West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 have come to an end, and now the waiting game begins. The results will be announced on May 4, but before that, we're looking at eight key constituencies that will decide the winner. These seats span across the state, reflecting the broader contest between the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
One of the most high-profile seats is Bhabanipur, where Mamata Banerjee is fighting to keep her seat. Suvendu Adhikari, a former ally turned rival, is challenging the Chief Minister in her own constituency. The BJP is trying to win over urban voters and those who don't speak Bengali, but Mamata's strength in her own turf will be hard to beat.
Another significant seat is Nandigram, which has been a symbol of resistance against the TMC since the 2007 land protests. Suvendu Adhikari is back in his old seat, but this time he's facing a former associate of his, Pabitra Kar. The personal dimension to this contest makes it an intense one.
Dinhata is known for its volatility, and this time it's a crucial swing seat in North Bengal. Udayan Guha of the TMC is facing off against Ajay Roy of the BJP in a contest that's likely to go down to the wire.
In the industrial belt of Asansol Dakshin, Agnimitra Paul of the BJP is taking on Tapas Banerjee of the TMC. This seat reflects the concerns of unemployed youth and the decline of the coal industry, making it a closely watched contest.
Bhangar is a minority-dominated seat that's known for its volatility. The ISF currently holds the seat, but the TMC is making a strong push to regain control. Nawsad Siddique of the ISF is facing off against Saokat Molla of the TMC in a tough fight.
In Baharampur, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of the Congress is facing a tough challenge from Subrata Maitra of the BJP and Naru Gopal Mukherjee of the TMC. This three-cornered contest will decide the fate of veteran leader Chowdhury.
Samsergunj is another seat that's witnessing a closely contested battle. Mohammed Nur Alam of the TMC is facing off against Najme Alam of the Congress and Sasti Charan Ghosh of the BJP in a contest that's likely to go down to the wire.
Finally, Panihati is a seat that carries both political and emotional weight. Ratna Debnath of the BJP is challenging Tirthankar Ghosh of the TMC, and the results will be a key test for the ruling party.
