Punjab's Labor Day Gift: 15% Hike in Minimum Wages
The Punjab Assembly made history by unanimously passing a resolution to increase minimum wages by 15% after a 13-year wait. This decision will directly benefit thousands of workers in both government and private sectors. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann celebrated this Labor Day gift, emphasizing the importance of education in improving workers' conditions.
CM Bhagwant Mann highlighted the government's commitment to transforming education, citing the success of 359 students from weaker sections who cleared the JEE exam. Many of these students were children of laborers, and their achievements have changed the fortune of their families. Education, according to the CM, is the key to uplifting these families, and the government has prioritized this sector.
The Chief Minister also praised labor unions for their tireless efforts in fighting for workers' rights. He assured the public that the government will continue to take steps to ensure the welfare of workers, enabling them to contribute significantly to the state and the nation.
In a separate development, CM Bhagwant Mann has announced a Shukrana Yatra to express gratitude to the Almighty for giving him the strength to pass the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act 2026. This legislation aims to prevent sacrilege and ensure harsher punishment for those found guilty.
The Shukrana Yatra will start on May 6 from Sri Anandpur Sahib and will cover several gurudwaras, including Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Damdama Sahib, Mastuana Sahib, Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib, and Sri Fatehgarh Sahib. CM Bhagwant Mann believes that this yatra will help express gratitude to the Almighty for this historic step.
