Assam Congress Convenes Post-Poll Review After Assembly Election Defeat
The Assam Congress convened a meeting with its MLAs-elect and defeated poll candidates in Guwahati on Tuesday to examine its performance in the 2026 Assembly election. State party president Gaurav Gogoi, who lost the Jorhat constituency, told reporters his party will extract key lessons from the outcome to strengthen its organization and electoral appeal.
Gogoi acknowledged the scale of the setback but rejected prolonged introspection, stating the party must move quickly to consolidate support ahead of upcoming civic and parliamentary polls. He said internal feedback from candidates and workers will shape a revised outreach strategy focused on grassroots issues and organizational renewal.
The review session included discussions on seat-sharing coordination, campaign messaging, and resource deployment across Brahmaputra Valley and Barak Valley constituencies. Party leaders emphasized discipline and booth-level restructuring as immediate priorities to counter the ruling alliance’s post-poll momentum.
The Congress will compile district-level reports by the end of the week and brief the All India Congress Committee on structural changes. Gogoi said the state unit will resume public outreach programs from May 10 to re-engage voters and office-bearers in preparation for the next electoral cycle.
