Two Missing, Including Child, After Boat Capsizes in Rajasthan's Mahi River
Two people, including an eight-year-old boy, are missing after a boat capsized in the Mahi River in Banswara district, Rajasthan, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The incident occurred near Bhaisau village under the Arthuna police station jurisdiction when the vessel overturned about 200 meters from the riverbank.
The boat was carrying approximately a dozen passengers. While most managed to swim to safety, Jayesh, 21, and Manav, 8, have not been located. Local police have launched a search and rescue operation with the help of disaster response teams.
Officials confirmed the boat lost control before capsizing, though the exact cause remains under investigation. Divers and local authorities are conducting a sweep of the river stretch where the vessel sank.
Rescue teams continue search operations as of Wednesday morning. The district administration has not issued any further details on recovery efforts, which are expected to resume at first light.
