Tensions Rise at Bengal Counting Centre Amid Voting Irregularities
The counting centre in Bhowanipore, a crucial battleground for the upcoming elections, was the site of a heated confrontation between TMC workers and security personnel. The main issue revolved around two vehicles displaying BJP flags that were allegedly allowed to enter the counting centre, despite strict security checks in place.
TMC workers claimed that security forces pushed them back nearly 100 meters from the site after they raised objections to the vehicles' entry. However, an Election Commission official countered the claim, stating that the vehicles merely passed through the area and were checked by security personnel and police, who found nothing objectionable.
This incident follows a series of similar allegations made by TMC in recent days. The party has been protesting "unauthorised access" to strongrooms and accusing authorities of irregularities amid the absence of TMC agents.
The Election Commission has rejected all such allegations, maintaining that surveillance systems remained fully operational. Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Sajal Ghosh dismissed the claims, accusing TMC of making baseless allegations out of fear of defeat.
West Bengal's elections were conducted in two phases, with voting held on April 23 in 152 constituencies and on April 29 in the remaining 142 seats. Both phases saw a record voter turnout exceeding 90%.
