Assam Congress Chief Concedes Defeat, Alleges Electoral Process Lacked Transparency

Guwahati, Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi conceded the BJP-led alliance’s victory in the 126-member Assembly and simultaneously alleged serious concerns over the fairness, transparency and accuracy of the electoral process. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati days after results were declared, Gogoi stated the Congress accepted the people’s mandate while questioning the conduct of the Electronic Voting Machine process and election management.
Gogoi said the Congress would convene a detailed review meeting in Guwahati with all its candidates to examine complaints related to EVMs, returning officers, administrative conduct and implementation of the model code of conduct. He asserted that the party would monitor the new government closely and continue raising public issues from both inside and outside the Assembly.
The Congress leader acknowledged that the party failed to convert its Lok Sabha success into Assembly seats and thanked voters in Jorhat and across Assam for their support. He maintained that Congress would uphold democracy and constitutional values while opposing one-party dominance and threats to democratic institutions.
Gogoi congratulated the BJP leadership and urged the new government to prioritize unresolved issues including artificial floods, infrastructure deficits and governance failures. The Congress will hold its review meeting with candidates in Guwahati to compile election-related observations and determine future procedural challenges.
