Nirmala Sitharaman Hails BJP's West Bengal Victory as Historic Shift

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday hailed the BJP's victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, declaring the people had ended the 'oppressive' Trinamool Congress regime that betrayed the ideals of 'Maa, Mati, Manush'. In a post on X, she expressed 'immense gratitude' to voters for choosing the BJP 'with hope and courage', as the party secured over 200 seats, crossing the majority mark and ending 15 years of TMC rule.
Sitharaman attributed the win to the 'selfless struggle, sacrifice and courage' of BJP workers and leaders, calling it a historic shift in Bengal's political landscape. She stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, West Bengal would rise again as one of India's leading states, and asserted that the TMC's 'regime of fear, appeasement and protection of infiltrators' had come to an end.
The minister shared a photo of jhalmuri, a popular Bengali street snack, symbolizing celebration and referencing Modi's campaign visit to a jhalmuri stall in Jhargram. The BJP is set to form its first government in the state, marking a major expansion of its political footprint in eastern India.
The Election Commission is expected to announce the official results shortly, and the BJP will begin formal consultations to appoint the new chief minister. The outgoing TMC government has not issued an official statement conceding defeat.
