Nagaland's Koridang Assembly Bypoll Vote Counting Set for May 4

The Koridang Assembly Constituency byelection in Nagaland's Mokokchung district is set to reach its conclusion with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4. According to officials, all arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth and transparent process, with a structured stage setup and designated tables for counting personnel, observers, and agents of contesting candidates.
The bypoll, which was necessitated by the demise of sitting BJP MLA Imkong L Imchen, witnessed a high voter turnout of 82.21% on April 9, with 18,400 of the 22,382 registered electors exercising their franchise across 30 polling stations.
Six candidates are in the fray for the seat, including BJP nominee Daochier I Imchen, who is also the consensus candidate of the Peoples' Democratic Alliance (PDA) government led by the Naga Peoples' Front (NPF), Congress candidate T Chalukumba Ao, NPP's I Abenjang, and Independents Imchatoba Imchen, Imtiwapang, and Toshikaba.
The counting centre has been fully prepared, with elaborate security arrangements in place, including multi-layer security deployment, CCTV surveillance, and strict access control, in view of the election-related violence reported on April 5 and 6.
The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be opened in the presence of candidates or their authorised agents on the counting day, following Election Commission guidelines, and the results are expected to be declared by afternoon. The outcome of the election may have significant implications for the state's political landscape, particularly given the current dynamics of the PDA government and the role of the NPF.
