UDF Sweeps Central Kerala in Assembly Polls, LDF Wins Only in Thrissur

The United Democratic Front (UDF) won all 28 Assembly seats across Ernakulam, Kottayam, and Idukki districts in the 2026 Kerala Legislative Assembly elections, delivering a sweeping blow to the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF). The LDF failed to win a single seat in these three districts, erasing its 2021 gains and underscoring a sharp reversal in voter sentiment in central Kerala.
In Thrissur district, the LDF broke the UDF's regional sweep by winning nine out of 13 seats, preventing a complete shutout. The UDF secured the remaining four seats, limiting the extent of its setback in a district that has historically seen tight contests between the two fronts.
The Congress-led UDF regained ground in Ernakulam, a traditional stronghold it had partially lost in 2021 when the LDF won five seats. This year, the UDF won all 14 seats, including the defeat of LDF's P. Rajeeve, Minister for Industries and a senior CPI(M) leader, marking a significant setback for the outgoing government.
Official results confirm the UDF's dominance in central Kerala, with strong performances attributed to voter dissatisfaction with the incumbent administration and localized campaign strategies. The Election Commission is scheduled to announce the full state-wide tally by May 5, 2026.
