JPMorgan Ex-Employee Falsely Claimed Father's Death, Filed Sexual Abuse Lawsuit: Report
Chirayu Rana, a former JPMorgan employee, claimed in mid-December 2024 that his father had died and took leave from work, according to a New York Post investigation, which found the claim false as his father, Chaitanya Rana, is alive and well. Rana used the claim to secure remote work and exhausted multiple leave allowances between March and May 2024, around the time a draft complaint was prepared against the bank.
The lawsuit, filed in April 2026 under the pseudonym 'John Doe' in New York County Supreme Court, accuses JPMorgan executive director Lorna Hajdini, 37, of drugging Rana with Rohypnol and Viagra, coercing him into sexual acts, and threatening his career. JPMorgan has disputed the allegations, stating Rana never reported to Hajdini and that no record supports the claims.
Chaitanya Rana told the Post he was unaware of the lawsuit and that his son had not communicated with the family about the matter. 'I don’t know anything about it. He didn’t talk with us or anything,' he said, adding, 'He’s my son. He’s a good guy.' The report also noted that legal documents referenced illness in both parents, including claims about Rana's mother, Baruna.
Rana left JPMorgan in late 2025, joined Bregal Sagemount, and departed that role on April 2, 2026, shortly before filing the suit. The New York Post cited sources saying the bank believed Rana was misusing bereavement policies, with one stating, 'You can tell that he was trying to play the system.'
The court has not yet scheduled a hearing on the merits of the lawsuit, and JPMorgan continues to cooperate with any internal review. The case remains pending in New York County Supreme Court.
