India's LPG Rules Get a Big Overhaul - Here's What You Need to Know
The new rules for LPG gas cylinders in India are in effect from today. This move is aimed at ensuring a steady supply of LPG to households. One of the key changes is the way you can book and receive your LPG cylinder.
Imagine you're planning to buy a new phone. You'd want to know when you can get it, right? The same thing applies to LPG cylinders. From now on, you'll have to book your LPG cylinder 21-25 days in advance if you live in an urban area. If you live in a rural area, you'll have 45 days to book your cylinder.
But that's not all. The government is also cracking down on households that have both LPG and piped natural gas (PNG) connections. They want to make sure that everyone who gets a subsidized LPG connection actually needs it. To do this, they're identifying households with dual connections and asking them to surrender their LPG connection.
The government has already seen a lot of people surrender their LPG connections. As of now, over 43,000 people have given up their LPG connections because they have a PNG connection. But the government is expecting more people to surrender their LPG connections.
Another big change is that now you'll need an OTP to get your LPG cylinder delivered. When you book your LPG cylinder, an OTP will be sent to your mobile. You'll need to show this OTP to the delivery person to get your cylinder. This is to ensure that your LPG cylinder reaches the right person. And if you haven't done your e-KYC using Aadhaar, you won't be able to get the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
