EAC-PM Urges Overhaul of Care Sector, Projects 30 Million Caregiver Demand by 2050

The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) has recommended a comprehensive overhaul of India's care sector framework, warning that demand for caregivers could exceed 30 million by 2050. The panel has called for the creation of a dedicated fund to support the development of a skilled and adequately compensated care workforce.
The recommendations aim to address structural gaps in training, employment conditions, and service delivery across health, elder, and disability care services. The EAC-PM emphasized the need for formal recognition of care work in national employment and social security policies.
Officials stated the council's findings will be forwarded to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Social Justice for detailed review. A decision on establishing the proposed fund and policy framework is expected within the next fiscal year.
