Congress Backs Vijay’s TVK to Form Tamil Nadu Government, Demands Cabinet Share

The Indian National Congress on Wednesday announced its elected representatives will support the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by C. Joseph Vijay, to form the next government in Tamil Nadu. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) confirmed the alliance is based on mutual respect and an agreement for an appropriate share in the state administration.
AICC Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar stated that the partnership between the TVK and the Congress is intended to be long-term. The agreement covers cooperation for upcoming local body elections as well as future Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha polls.
The move marks a significant shift in the state's political landscape, formalizing the TVK's path to power with national party backing. The announcement follows deliberations regarding the composition of the new cabinet and legislative priorities.
Discussions regarding specific portfolio allocations and the timeline for the swearing-in ceremony are expected to begin immediately between the leadership of both parties.
