UDF Wins Kerala Assembly Elections 2026, Ends Decade of Left Rule
The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) won the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, reclaiming power after a decade of Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule, according to results declared by the Election Commission of India. The alliance secured a clear majority, building on momentum from four bypoll victories since 2021, a strong performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, and success in December's local body elections.
Senior UDF leaders V.D. Satheesan, Ramesh Chennithala, and K.C. Venugopal credited the win to cohesive alliance strategy, consistent electioneering, and public rejection of what they described as misgovernance and nepotism under the LDF. The outgoing LDF government, led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, has conceded defeat and pledged a peaceful transition.
The Election Commission is expected to formally notify the results within 24 hours, after which Governor Arif Mohammed Khan will invite the UDF to form the new government. The swearing-in ceremony for the incoming Chief Minister is likely to be held early next week.
