Assam CM Sarma Alleges Congress MP Gogoi Has Pakistan Links After BJP's Re-Election Win
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has links to the Pakistani establishment following the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance's win of 102 out of 140 seats in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Speaking in an interview with Times Now, Sarma said he did not name Gogoi during his campaign rallies but claimed to have evidence of the MP's connections, challenging him to file a defamation case if the allegations are false.
The BJP secured 82 seats in the election, with allies Bodoland Peoples Front and Asom Gana Parishad each winning 10, ensuring a third consecutive term for the NDA in Assam. The Congress won 21 seats. Sarma, who addressed over 200 election meetings, stated he refrained from personally targeting Gogoi despite his reservations.
Sarma also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, calling him a 'mental patient' for alleging electoral fraud in Assam while accepting results in Kerala, both overseen by the same Election Commission. He urged Gandhi to 'stay in Oman' instead of returning to India.
Regarding West Bengal's election results, Sarma said Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee was making 'childish allegations' to save face after losing her seat. The Election Commission has not issued any statement on post-poll disputes in either state.
The Assam government will resume administrative operations on Monday, with the swearing-in ceremony for the new government scheduled for next week.
