Vijay's TVK Wins 107 Seats in Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the debutant party led by actor C. Joseph Vijay, won 107 of the 233 seats it contested in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, placing it ahead of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Vijay's campaign strategy, which framed the election as a direct contest between TVK and the DMK, contributed to the party's strong performance despite being newly formed and lacking alliance partners.
The DMK, led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, finished second in seat count, while the AIADMK came third. TVK also secured second place in 76 constituencies and third in 50, indicating broad-based support across the state. Exit polls and preliminary results suggest significant voter shift from traditional parties to the new entrant, particularly in urban and semi-urban regions.
The Election Commission is scheduled to announce the final seat distribution and government formation timeline by May 6, 2026. Political observers expect coalition negotiations to begin as no single party has secured an outright majority.
