UK Police Crack Down on Mysterious Group with Allegations of Abuse and Slavery
Imagine a community where people live together, following a unique set of beliefs. Sounds harmless, right? Well, the police in the UK recently raided a place like that, and what they found was shocking. The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light, or AROPL, has been operating in secret for years, with members from all over the world. They believe in some pretty out-there things, like aliens controlling the US presidents and the Illuminati controlling America.
But the police weren't interested in their weird and wonderful views. They were there to investigate some disturbing allegations. People had come forward claiming that members of the group were involved in some serious crimes, like rape, human trafficking, and slavery. When the police raided their headquarters, they found evidence that these claims might be true.
The police arrested 10 members of the group, including the spiritual leader, Abdullah Hashem Aba Al-Safiq. Some of the people arrested were from America, Britain, Mexico, Spain, Germany, and Egypt. It's a pretty diverse group, but they all share one thing in common: they're connected to AROPL.
The leader of the police investigation, Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley, made it clear that this isn't a witch hunt against a particular religion. It's just a normal police investigation into some serious allegations.
AROPL has been active for a while now, with roots in Twelver Shia Islam. It's a millenarian movement that's spread to 40 countries, including Sweden and England. But the group's views are so different from mainstream Islam that they've faced persecution in many Muslim-majority countries.
