M.K. Stalin Receives Warm Public Reception in Kolathur After Election Loss

DMK President and outgoing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin received a massive public reception on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, during a visit to the Kolathur Assembly constituency, which he lost to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate V.S. Babu, a former DMK leader. Stalin visited to thank voters, setting an example for party candidates following the 2026 Assembly elections.
Crowds gathered spontaneously along the route, slowing Stalin's open-top vehicle as party workers and residents cheered and waved. Numerous supporters were seen weeping, and Stalin, visibly moved, urged them not to cry. He was accompanied by former Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P.K. Sekarbabu, who also appeared emotional throughout the visit.
Kolathur was one of the few constituencies where the DMK failed to secure victory, with Babu winning as a TVK candidate after leaving the party. Stalin had earlier directed all DMK candidates to visit their constituencies to thank voters, and his appearance in Kolathur marked a symbolic adherence to that directive despite personal electoral loss.
The DMK is expected to continue post-election outreach across Tamil Nadu, with senior leaders visiting key constituencies. The party will hold a review meeting on Thursday to assess the election outcomes and plan future strategies.
