Police took 19‑year‑old Alexandros Paporakis into custody on Aug 27 after co‑workers flagged a manifesto that outlined a planned attack on a Hindu temple in Aurora.
Paporakis, a cashier at a local Taco Bell, lived in Palatine, a Chicago suburb, and had previously raised concerns over his extremist messages to coworkers.
During a search of his home, detectives recovered an unregistered AR‑style rifle, hundreds of rounds, a gas canister bearing a South‑Asian slur, and Nazi insignia.
He was booked into Cook County Third Municipal District Courthouse, where a judge ordered him detained; the case will be heard again on Oct 30.
The local police chief said the investigation underscores the threat posed by domestic extremists, while community leaders called for vigilance.
