West Bengal Bars Mamata Banerjee-Appointed Retired Bureaucrats From Offices

West Bengal has barred all retired bureaucrats appointed by Mamata Banerjee from government offices effective immediately as the state prepares for BJP government formation. West Bengal Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala issued the directive to all departmental secretaries, instructing that former officials serving in departments must not attend offices from Tuesday onward until the new government is sworn in.
Secretaries conveyed the order verbally within their respective offices, sources said, as several retired advisors have already resigned and vacated government accommodations. The directive covers officials who continued to serve in various departments under the outgoing Trinamool Congress administration, which lost power after 15 years following its defeat in the assembly election.
Departments have been ordered to secure all important files and prevent their removal from office premises, with financial advisors tasked to compile file inventories. Chief Secretary Nariala reiterated vigilance instructions to all departments on Tuesday to ensure administrative continuity and asset protection during the transition.
The BJP, which won 207 of 294 assembly seats, is scheduled to hold its oath-taking ceremony for the first non-Trinamool government in West Bengal on May 9. The barring order will remain in force until the new administration is formally constituted.
