Tribal Teen's Death Exposes Systemic Neglect as Family Carries Body on Shoulders in Madhya Pradesh
Published: May 4, 2026

In Ashoknagar, Madhya Pradesh, the death of a 15-year-old tribal girl has spotlighted institutional failure after her family was forced to carry her body through scorching heat without a hearse or stretcher. Despite standard protocols for minors and sensitive cases, no official arrangements were made, exposing deep gaps in rural healthcare and dignity in death for marginalized communities.
In Bahadurpur town of Ashoknagar district, the death of a 15-year-old tribal girl from Kheroda Chakk village has triggered outrage after her family was compelled to carry her body on foot for over two hours under 41-degree Celsius heat. Following a post-mortem at the local primary health centre, hospital authorities provided no stretcher, no body bag, and no transport, leaving the grieving family to plead for help from passing drivers—none of whom agreed, even for payment. With no official vehicle or logistical support, the body was laid on the roadside, wrapped only in a cloth, until a social worker intervened and transported it in his private car.
