Kerala Government Higher Secondary Schools See No Principal Transfers for 2025-26 Academic Year
The General Education department in Kerala has opted not to conduct the general transfer of principals in government higher secondary schools for the ongoing academic year, marking a deviation from the usual practice.
According to the Kerala Higher Secondary School Principals’ Association, the typical process involves calling for applications between March and April, with the aim of completing transfers by June-July. However, the department's move to shift the process online, coupled with delays in finalizing the rules, has led to this outcome.
N. Sakkeer Sainudheen, president of the association, highlighted that even the application process was not initiated last year, with the department citing plans for an online mode that was subsequently delayed due to the time taken to frame the necessary rules.
The rules were eventually framed in November, following pressure from teachers' unions, though the association is yet to receive copies. This sequence of events underscores the complexities and challenges faced by the education sector in implementing administrative changes.
Looking ahead, the decision not to transfer principals could have significant implications for the management and operations of government higher secondary schools in Kerala. It may lead to discussions about the effectiveness of the current administrative structures and the need for streamlined processes to ensure continuity and stability in school leadership. As the education sector continues to evolve, addressing these challenges will be crucial for maintaining the quality of education and ensuring that schools are well-equipped to meet the needs of their students.
