Dutch Royals Face New Threat: Man Arrested For Plot To Kill Princesses

Princess Catharina-Amalia and her sister Princess Alexia are at the center of a shocking plot. A 33-year-old man, who is believed to be a far-right extremist, was arrested in February and is now in custody. When he was arrested, he had two axes with 'Alexia', 'Mossad', and 'Sieg Heil' engraved on them. He also had a handwritten note with the words 'Amalia', 'Alexia', and 'bloodbath'.
The motive behind the plot is still unknown, but authorities are working hard to find out. The royal family had already taken extra precautions after a previous threat in 2020. Back then, a man sent threatening messages to Princess Catharina-Amalia, and she was forced to go into hiding.
This isn't the first time Princess Catharina-Amalia's safety has been a concern. Two years ago, she had to leave her student accommodation in Amsterdam due to safety fears. She even spent a year living in Madrid after she was told she might be a target for kidnapping by drug cartels. Intercepted communications had placed both her and the Dutch prime minister at the time, Mark Rutte, in the crosshairs.
The royal family has been very open about the impact of these threats on Princess Catharina-Amalia's life. Her mother, Queen Maxima, said that the constant threats and security concerns have had 'enormous consequences' on her daughter's life. She's missed out on normal life, like walking the streets and going to stores.
Despite the new threat, the royal family went ahead with their King's Day celebrations on Monday. They joined street festivities, greeted well-wishers, and even took to the ice. The national holiday marks the 59th birthday of King Willem-Alexander.
