TVK's R Sabarinathan Wins Virugambakkam By 27,086 Votes in Tamil Nadu Assembly Election
R Sabarinathan, 30, has won the Virugambakkam assembly constituency in Chennai by 27,086 votes, according to the Election Commission of India. He contested as a candidate of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the political arm of actor Vijay's fan base.
Sabarinathan is the son of Rajendran, who has served as Vijay's driver and personal assistant since the actor's debut film, 'Naalaiya Theerpu'. His victory comes amid a broader electoral wave for TVK, which is leading in 107 constituencies as per the latest ECI data, including 103 confirmed wins and leads in four others.
The DMK-led alliance stands at 60 seats, with 58 wins and two leads, while the AIADMK alliance has secured 47 seats. The Congress has won five seats. The results indicate a potential shift in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, which has been dominated by the DMK and AIADMK since 1977.
TVK has not yet issued a formal statement on government formation. Election officials will continue counting provisional votes, and the final tally is expected to be declared by the ECI within 48 hours.
