Protesters Demand Arunachal CM Step Aside During CBI Probe Ordered by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a preliminary inquiry into corruption allegations against Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, prompting protests demanding he step aside during the investigation. The probe focuses on public works contracts linked to Khandu's family members over the past decade, with the Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) leading calls for his temporary resignation to ensure transparency.
Protesters, led by ACS Chairman Byabang Joram, argue that Khandu's continued presence in office could influence the investigation, undermining public confidence. They insist the protest is not politically motivated but centers on institutional accountability and due process, stating Khandu should return to office if exonerated.
Khandu has rejected all allegations, declaring he had no involvement in the matter and welcoming the CBI inquiry. "The truth will come out — doodh ka doodh, paani ka paani ho jayega," he said Tuesday, affirming that his government will fully cooperate with the investigation.
The CBI is expected to begin its preliminary inquiry in the coming days, while ACS leaders maintain their demand for Khandu's temporary removal. The court will review the progress of the probe at a later date.
