Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) summoned acting Indian High Commissioner Pawan Badhe to convey Dhaka's strong protest over the recent comments made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The meeting, which took place at the MoFA, aimed to address the concerns and emphasize the need for restraint in public statements that may potentially strain bilateral ties between the two neighboring countries. According to a diplomatic source, Director General Ishrat Jahan led the Bangladesh delegation and effectively conveyed the country's position to the Indian envoy.

While no official statement was released by the MoFA, the source confirmed that Dhaka expressed its deep displeasure over Sarma's remarks, which were described as disparaging to Bangladesh-India relations.

The controversy began when Sarma stated that 20 foreign nationals were apprehended in Assam and subsequently pushed back to Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh government, however, strongly refuted this claim, stressing that public statements capable of straining ties between the two neighbors are counterproductive.

In light of this situation, Bangladesh emphasized the importance of exercising restraint when addressing sensitive bilateral issues.

The diplomatic source added that the meeting aimed to maintain the momentum of strong ties between the two countries, while also reiterating the need for careful consideration in public statements that may impact the bilateral relationship.
