Punjab DGP Cites ISI Role in Twin Blasts, Contradicting CM Mann's BJP Allegations
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated on Wednesday that preliminary investigation into twin blasts in Jalandhar and Amritsar indicates possible involvement of Pakistan's ISI, describing the devices as improvised and likely triggered by timer or remote control. Speaking at a press conference, Yadav said no claim of responsibility has been made, but intelligence inputs and CCTV evidence point to external elements attempting to destabilize the state. "Punjab is the most peaceful state in the country. A handful of elements from Pakistan's ISI are trying to disturb the situation," he said.
The first explosion occurred around 8 pm in Jalandhar outside the BSF Punjab Frontier headquarters when a scooter caught fire, followed by a second blast at approximately 10:50 pm in Khasa near the Amritsar cantonment area. Security forces responded immediately, and forensic teams have collected evidence from both sites. Investigators have not found any wires, supporting the theory of a wireless detonation mechanism.
Contradicting the DGP's assessment, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann alleged the BJP orchestrated the incidents to incite fear ahead of elections. "This is the BJP's preparation for the Punjab elections. BJP gets votes by spreading violence and fear among people," Mann said, urging the party to stop. The state government has not provided evidence to support this claim.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police analyzing CCTV footage and technical evidence. The National Security Guard and intelligence agencies have been alerted, and the Punjab Police will submit an interim report within 48 hours.
