Twin Security Incidents Strike Defence Sites in Punjab’s Jalandhar and Amritsar

Two incidents within two hours rocked Punjab’s Jalandhar and Amritsar districts on Tuesday night, both occurring near high-security defence establishments. A scooter parked outside the Border Security Force headquarters in Jalandhar caught fire around 8 pm, causing shattered glass and structural damage up to 300 metres away, while a subsequent explosion struck the outer wall of the Army’s Khasa Camp on Amritsar’s Attari Road, leaving metal fragments embedded in the boundary. Authorities reported no casualties in either incident.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said preliminary findings indicate the Jalandhar incident began when an Activa scooter parked near the BSF gate caught fire, with eyewitnesses reporting a blast-like sound audible up to one kilometre. Fire officials required multiple water units to extinguish the blaze. In Amritsar, Senior Superintendent of Police Suhail Qasim Mir said fragments resembling sheet metal found at Khasa Camp suggest an explosive device was thrown at the boundary wall, with preliminary information indicating masked individuals carried out the act and fled. Police have not confirmed any link between the two events.
The proximity of both incidents to sensitive defence installations has intensified scrutiny, with CCTV footage under analysis and technical faults or external interference being examined. Political leaders, including Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Shiromani Akali Dal’s Bikram Singh Majithia, described the events as alarming and raised concerns over law and order in the border state. The Punjab Police and security forces are conducting a joint probe into the causes and possible coordination between the incidents.
Investigators will continue reviewing forensic evidence and CCTV footage as the court and police pursue leads, with further updates expected once technical assessments are completed.
