Vijay's TVK Wins 108 Seats in Tamil Nadu, Emerges as Major Political Force
Actor-turned-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) won 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, marking a dramatic entry into state politics and nearly achieving a majority in its first major electoral contest. The result shattered the long-standing dominance of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), positioning TVK as the single largest party or a key player in government formation.
Vijay, in a statement posted on X, said his party faced widespread mockery and veiled criticism since its inception but remained committed to winning public trust without institutional backing. He credited the electorate, especially young voters and families, for driving the outcome, calling the verdict a "miraculous election" that fulfilled his prediction of sending tremors through Indian politics.
The TVK leader described the win as a rejection of money-driven political practices and asserted the rise of what he termed "emotional democracy." He expressed gratitude to party workers and supporters, while also reaching out to those who did not vote for TVK, inviting future support.
With results declared, political negotiations are expected to intensify in the coming days. The Election Commission will formally notify the elected members, and the governor is likely to call for government formation proceedings by early next week.
