Cabinet Approves ₹1,570 Crore Ship Repair Facility in Vadinar, Gujarat

The Union Cabinet approved a state-of-the-art ship repair facility in Vadinar, Gujarat, with a total investment of ₹1,570 crore, the government said in a statement on Tuesday. The project will be jointly implemented by Deendayal Port Authority and Cochin Shipyard Limited.
The facility will be developed to enhance domestic ship repair capacity and reduce dependence on foreign yards for large vessel maintenance. It is positioned to serve commercial and industrial shipping operators across the western coast.
Deendayal Port Authority and Cochin Shipyard Limited will execute the project under a joint framework, with capital expenditure split between the two entities as per their operational mandates. Construction and operational timelines will be finalized after project sanctioning.
The government will finalize engineering, procurement, and construction contracts in the coming weeks. The facility is expected to commence operations within the next three years pending statutory clearances.
