Cabinet Endorses ₹23,437‑Crore Railway Multitracking Projects in Six States

India’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved three multitracking railway projects on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The projects total ₹23,437 crore and will extend the rail network by approximately 901 km across Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The approved upgrades include the Nagda–Mathura 3rd and 4th lines, the Guntakal–Wadi 3rd and 4th lines, and the Burhwal–Sitapur 3rd and 4th lines.
Construction is slated to be completed by the 2030‑31 fiscal year, as outlined in the Ministry of Railways’ project schedule.
The Railway Ministry will issue detailed implementation plans next month, and the projects will be monitored by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs to ensure adherence to timelines and budgets.
