Punjab Police's Move Against Defector MP Sandeep Pathak Sparks Political Fire
Punjab police have been making headlines lately, and not for the right reasons. A week ago, Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, a former AAP strategist, joined the BJP along with six others. Now, it's alleged that Punjab police have filed two FIRs against him. Sources close to the government confirmed the FIRs, but no one wants to talk about it.
The police haven't issued any official statement about the nature of the allegations, but sources claim that Pathak faces non-bailable charges. Pathak's phone was unreachable, and his team refused to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, video footage emerged showing him leaving his Delhi residence through a rear exit in a white SUV before the police arrived.
Pathak's switch to the BJP has sparked a heated debate among Punjab's political leaders. As a former IIT-Delhi professor, he was one of the key strategists for AAP during the 2022 assembly election. His departure has raised eyebrows, and now, the FIRs have added fuel to the fire.
The BJP and SAD have accused the AAP government of using the FIRs as a tool for 'political vendetta'. They claim that the actions are meant to divert attention from the alleged misconduct of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the assembly. Sunil Jakhar, Punjab BJP president, said his party will not be intimidated by the FIRs and will continue to fight for justice.
The situation outside Pathak's home in Delhi has become tense. Security has been tightened, and additional personnel have been deployed. Delhi police teams were seen placing barricades in the vicinity as a precautionary measure. The BJP has questioned AAP's priorities, saying that the state is battling a drug menace and law and order situation.
