Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Resigns After UDF Election Victory

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has resigned after the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) won the state assembly elections, securing 63 of 140 seats. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar accepted the resignation and directed Vijayan to remain in office until a successor is sworn in and administrative arrangements are completed.
The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), won 26 seats, while its ally Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) secured 22, marking the end of the incumbent government's term. The UDF's victory unseats the LDF after one term in power.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi welcomed the election outcome, thanking voters and pledging that the new government would harness Kerala's talent and potential. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also expressed gratitude, vowing that the UDF would work with honesty and humility to fulfill its commitments.
The Governor is expected to invite the UDF to form the new government, with swearing-in ceremonies likely within days. The Election Commission has yet to officially notify the results.
