Punjab Political Row Erupts as CM Mann Links BJP to Jalandhar, Amritsar Blasts

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating two low-intensity blasts that occurred in Jalandhar and Amritsar on Tuesday night. The comments have sparked a major political confrontation, with both the BJP and Congress accusing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration of attempting to deflect responsibility for state security failures.
The explosions occurred approximately three hours apart, the first striking outside the Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar at 8:00 PM, followed by a second near the army cantonment in Amritsar’s Khasa at 11:00 PM. While Punjab Police officials stated that preliminary investigations suspect the involvement of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, Mann characterized the incidents as a tactical move by the BJP ahead of state elections.
Opposing political factions reacted sharply to the Chief Minister's claims. BJP leader Sunil Jakhar described the statement as "irresponsible," noting the contradiction between the Punjab DGP’s findings and Mann’s allegations. Congress MP Sukhjinder Randhawa further criticized the state government, asserting that the AAP leadership was politicizing a serious security breach instead of addressing law and order lapses.
Security agencies have intensified surveillance across the border state following the twin incidents. Forensic teams are currently analyzing debris from the blast sites to determine the exact composition of the explosives, and a formal report is expected later this week.
