TVK Seeks Congress Support to Form Tamil Nadu Government
Published: May 5, 2026
TVK chief Vijay has approached Congress for backing to form a new Tamil Nadu government after strong Assembly poll results. Congress will decide on the proposal in Chennai Wednesday and rules out support for a BJP-led administration.
TVK chief Vijay has asked Congress for support to form a new government in Tamil Nadu, senior Congress leader KC Venugopal said Tuesday. The request follows gains by Vijay’s party in the Assembly elections that eroded the dominance of the DMK and AIADMK.
Venugopal said the Congress Tamil Nadu unit will meet in Chennai Wednesday to decide on the proposal. He said the party will not back a BJP-led government in the state.
Venugopal said the electoral mandate reflects a preference for a secular government. Congress will finalize its position after Wednesday’s meeting.
