Bengal Election Counting: Tensions Rise as Politicians Gear Up for Results
Mamata Banerjee is counting down the hours until the vote counting begins. The Bengal Chief Minister is confident that her party, the Trinamool Congress, will win big in the upcoming elections. In a virtual address to her party workers, Banerjee said she expects the results to be in her party's favor, with over 200 seats won.
Banerjee also addressed concerns about the exit polls, which she believes were conducted to manipulate the stock market. She told her party workers to remain calm and not to worry if the initial postal ballot results go against them. The Chief Minister also thanked her workers for withstanding attacks and fighting back against their opponents.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress has released a list of party seniors who will be coordinating with ground workers on the counting day. Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata's nephew and a key party leader, will be overseeing the South 24 Parganas district.
The opposition BJP, on the other hand, is urging all political parties to maintain peace and accept the people's mandate. Bengal's leader of opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, has called on all parties to cooperate with the Election Commission, central forces, and state police. He also warned against a repeat of the post-poll violence that followed the 2021 elections.
BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar has accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of bringing in outsiders into the city ahead of the counting. He believes that these outsiders are staying at hotels and are being used to influence the voting process. Sarkar has called for a fair and transparent election process.
As the counting day approaches, tensions are running high in Bengal. The outcome of the elections will have a significant impact on the state's politics and the future of the ruling Trinamool Congress.
