Bollywood Legend Sudesh Kumar Passes Away at 95
Sudesh Kumar was a name you might not know immediately, but his impact on Bollywood is undeniable. Born in 1931 in Peshawar, Pakistan, Sudesh's family moved to Mumbai when he was young. He was a science graduate from Elphinstone College, but his father wanted him to be a doctor. Instead, Sudesh joined Prithviraj Kapoor's theatre group, where he was also related to the Kapoor family.
Sudesh started acting in low-budget films in the 1950s, but it was his role in 'Chhoti Bahen' (1959) that brought him mainstream attention. He was paired opposite Nanda, and his cameo as a doctor became a memorable scene. In the 1960s, Sudesh worked with top directors in the South, including K Shankar and CV Sridhar.
One of his most iconic roles was in 'Saranga' (1961), where he played a prince who falls in love with a commoner to a tragic outcome. The film's title song, 'Saranga teri yaad mein', is still widely popular today. Sudesh also produced several hit films, including 'Uljhan' (1975) and 'Badalte Rishtey' (1978).
After a successful acting career, Sudesh shifted his focus to producing films in the 1970s. He formed a fruitful partnership with Raghunath Jhalani, delivering two smart and modestly successful thrillers. Sudesh was married to Jaya Dhawan in 1982, and they had a happy life together until his passing.
Sudesh's death has left a void in the Bollywood industry, but his legacy will live on through his memorable performances and successful films.
