Zomi Leaders to Transport BJP MLA Valte's Body to Delhi for Protest

Zomi community leaders are preparing to transport the body of Manipur BJP MLA Valte to Delhi for a protest demonstration outside the party's national headquarters, demanding the arrest of individuals behind a 2023 mob assault that led to his death. Valte, who was attacked in Imphal on May 4, 2023, succumbed to his injuries in February 2026 after prolonged medical complications.
His family has refused to perform his last rites for over three years, citing inaction by authorities in apprehending those responsible for the attack. The decision to move the body to Delhi underscores growing pressure on the central government to intervene in the investigation.
The protest is scheduled to begin outside BJP headquarters in New Delhi within days, according to Zomi leaders, who say they will remain until there is a formal commitment to arrests. The Manipur government has confirmed the case remains under investigation, with forensic and witness accounts still being reviewed.
The Delhi protest is expected to draw representatives from tribal organizations across Northeast India. The court will resume hearing on the case next week.
