CPI Wins Only 8 Seats in Kerala Assembly Elections, Down From 17 in 2021

The Communist Party of India won eight seats in the 2026 Kerala Legislative Assembly elections, according to official results released on May 5, 2026. The outcome represents a steep decline from the 17 seats the party won in the 2021 polls.
The CPI, a key constituent of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), saw its influence shrink amid shifting voter alignments and internal party challenges. While the LDF retained power in the state, the reduced tally weakens the CPI's standing relative to its alliance partner, the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Election officials confirmed the final results early on Tuesday morning, with vote counting completed across all 140 constituencies. The CPI leadership is expected to convene a central committee meeting within the week to assess the electoral performance and realign strategy ahead of upcoming local and national polls.
