Suvendu Adhikari Wins Bhabanipur and Nandigram, Signals BJP's UP 2027 Push

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari won both Bhabanipur and Nandigram assembly seats in West Bengal, defeating Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur by 15,105 votes after 20 rounds of counting, according to the Election Commission. The results mark a significant political shift in the state, following his earlier defeat of Banerjee in Nandigram in 2021.
Adhikari, a former close aide of Banerjee and key TMC strategist, claimed the Hindu vote in Nandigram propelled his victory, asserting support from Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, and Jain communities while accusing the TMC of corruption and lack of ideology. He stated that several CPM supporters and TMC MPs would soon join the BJP.
Declaring the defeat of Mamata Banerjee, Tejashwi Yadav, and Rahul Gandhi, Adhikari said, "Akhilesh Yadav is next," positioning the BJP for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. He paid tribute to BJP workers killed in West Bengal election-related violence, calling Banerjee's political decline irreversible.
Adhikari is now emerging as a leading contender for the BJP's chief ministerial face in West Bengal. The party will assess seat-sharing and leadership strategy ahead of the 2026 state polls, while opposition parties begin preparations for the upcoming national electoral cycle.
